About the Project
moirée is an interactive case study database on structural disadvantage experienced by women and non-binary people in the workplace — launched in the DACH region, with ongoing expansion across Europe. Collected systematically and classified scientifically, it makes visible the patterns that pass for coincidence in a single case.
The database is aimed at journalists, researchers, NGOs, and affected individuals. All case studies are anonymized, citable, and linked to academic studies — collected according to scientific standards and freely accessible under an open license.
The project covers experiences from various industries and regions — open to submissions from 31 European countries, with reports so far concentrated in the DACH region, where the project began. Each case is assigned to one or more experience types — from Gatekeeping to Gender Pay Gap to Gender-Exclusion — and linked to existing research literature.
EU expansion: each new country operates as an independent chapter with local coordination, a translated interface, and country-specific crisis resources. Priority countries for the first wave: France, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain.

Structural disadvantage often only becomes visible when individual cases are systematically collected and scientifically classified. That is exactly what moirée does — it transforms individual experiences into citable data.
In the German-speaking region, there is a lack of a publicly accessible, structured data foundation on professional disadvantage experienced by women and non-binary people. We aim to close this gap with a scientifically grounded yet accessible approach.
Every case in the database is anonymized, linked to academic literature, and available under an open license. Our goal is to give affected individuals a voice while upholding scientific standards.
